"...A fascinating book that really challenged my belief in church doctrine.." Amazon review.

The Unholy Trinity is a personal account of the author’s search for a rational belief structure to replace his dissipated faith in the doctrine of the Christian Church. The result is a thought provoking and controversial book that opens a door many would rather remain shut, daring those that might to open their minds and reflect upon a society that increasingly appears to be bound by blind faith, irrational fundamentalism, or lost in disillusionment.

However, the main thrust of the book is not to attack or to disprove church doctrine per se. The main thrust is to demonstrate that, by distorting biblical passages to support its outdated doctrines, the church is creating an obstacle to a proper understanding of the Bible As a result, the moral teaching, important lessons and dire warnings that the Bible contains are all too often either misunderstood or ignored.

Throughout the book, minimum knowledge of the Bible is assumed and the emphasis is on plain writing that avoids excessive use of labels ending with ‘ologies’ or ‘isms’. However, the Unholy Trinity also contains a comprehensive reference section, which enables students to understand and/or pursue the issues covered in more depth.

Using clear language supported by numerous Bible references, The Unholy Trinity demonstrates that:

·         A major obstacle to an understanding of the biblical account of mankind’s search for the meaning of our existence is  church dogma.

·         As demonstrated by how far society has drifted from Christian principles, Christianity is failing the key test of any religion, it no longer works.

·         The inability of the church to engage the citizens it serves reduces its ability to effectively offer solutions to the social and environmental problem mankind is currently facing.

Who would read ‘The Unholy Trinity’?

  •  Those people who are no longer actively involved in church life, but who seek a meaningful spiritual element in their lives to balance the rising tide of materialism so prevalent in modern life.
  •   Christians who feel that their spiritual values and moral standards are being unfairly attacked by books such as ‘The God Delusion’.
  •   Church leaders and/or theology students who want to gain an insight into the doubts (valid or otherwise) that cause long term church members to consciously decide to leave the church.
  •   Participants in the ‘Alpha’ Christian teaching courses who want to be exposed to a non-doctrinal interpretation of the Bible.
  • Students of religious mysteries, as the biggest mystery of all must surely be why the church continues to enshrine demonstrably flawed teaching in infallible dogma.

Why would they read The Unholy Trinity?

Religious ideas affect a significant percentage of the population, regardless of their religious affiliations. Children are baptised, marriages are consecrated by church officials, Easter and Christmas celebrated and, at the loss of loved ones, people of all religious persuasions turn to the Bible for words of comfort. Religious mysteries fascinate the masses – hence the success of books such as The Da Vinci Code and The Holy Blood and The Holy Grail. We differentiate cultures by their core religions e.g. Christianity vs Islam. Even within one religion, we type people by their individual interpretation of religion doctrine.

With little hard personal knowledge to support the claim, most people invoke the Bible to support or defend the above activities. The Unholy Trinity, will enable its readers to discover for themselves whether or not this is rational in light of an objective reading of the Bible. At the very least, The Unholy Trinity will provide a clear and concise guide to the doctrinal and practical teaching of Christianity.

What differentiates The Unholy Trinity from the myriad of other similar books?

  •  The arguments contained in The Unholy Trinity can be validated by cross- referencing the textual information in the book with unedited, and contextually valid, biblical passages. (My use of the ‘Jesus/Passover’ link may be unique. If the argument has been made before, I certainly developed my argument without prior knowledge of this information.)
  • The book answers the ‘so what!’ factor by defining the practical implications of church doctrine as they relate to the key contact episodes most people have with the church, i.e. Baptism, communion, marriage, Easter/Christmas services and death.
  • It provides a coherent and credible belief structure for those people who believe in a creator god, but who cannot believe in an interventionist god who acts in an arbitrary fashion and is influenced by human behaviour.
  • The Unholy Trinity is the only book that anyone who genuinely desires to understand the meaning, rewards, and price of the Christian message, as contained in the Bible, may ever need.
